NEW SHOE POLICY In an effort to clarify the uniform policy on shoes to be worn with school uniforms, all changes will become effective as of October 26, 2009. I hope this is not too much of an inconvenience for you.
PK – 8th grade Boys & Girls: Foot Apparel: School-type dress shoes, athletic or tennis shoes in canvas or leather may be worn. Fluorescent colored shoes or shoe laces are not to be worn as part of the uniform. For the sake of safety, no sandals, jellies, granny boots, western boots, shoes with lights, cartoon characters, flames, checkered, or wheelie shoes are allowed. Shoes requiring shoestrings must have black, navy blue, or white shoestrings and be tied at all times.

Queremos aclarar las nuevas reglas acerca de los zapatos que deben usar los Estudiantes con su uniforme. La implementación de estas reglas comenzara a ser efectiva a partir del 26 de Octubre del 2009.
Los niños y las niñas desde el PK hasta octavo (8) grado, deben traer zapatos apropiados, los cuales pueden ser: Zapatos de tipo escolar de cuero, lona o tenis atléticos de color azul, gris o blanco. Los zapatos fosforescentes con colores, luces o caricaturas no serán permitidos usar con el uniforme. Por seguridad de los estudiantes,
No deben usar sandalias, botas o zapatos de abuelita y asimismo los cordones de los zapatos deben ser de color negro, blanco o gris y permanecer atados todo el tiempo.
NIGHT OF
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who attended and supported the Night of Hope dinner in November of 2008. With over 900 people in attendance, the evening was very successful! As the next Night of Hope dinner rapidly approaches, I sincerely hope that you and your families will be able to attend this great event. The Night of Hope 2009 dinner will be Saturday, October 24 at the Sheraton Downtown.

How Flu Spreads
Person to Person
The main way that influenza viruses are spread is from person to person in respiratory droplets of coughs and sneezes. (This is called "droplet spread.") This can happen when droplets from a cough or sneeze of an infected person are propelled through the air and deposited on the mouth or nose of people nearby. Influenza viruses may also be spread when a person touches respiratory droplets on another person or an object and then touches his/her own mouth or nose (or someone else’s mouth or nose) before washing his/her hands.
The Flu Is Contagious
Most healthy adults may be able to infect others beginning 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 5 days after becoming sick. Children may pass the virus for longer than seven days. Symptoms start one to four days after the virus enters the body. That means that you may be able to pass on the flu to someone else before you know you are sick, as well as while you are sick. Some persons can be infected with the flu virus but have no symptoms. During this time, those persons can still spread the virus to others.

KEEPING UP WITH CHILDREN’S PROGRESS
We are now four weeks into the 2009-2010 school year and I’m sure you are anxious to see how your children are doing. Some of the parents did not attend the required parent night and the required curriculum nights and therefore you did not receive your technology passwords. It is important as a parent to be involved in your children’s school and education, since you are the primary teachers of your children at home. The interest and excitement you exemplify to your children reflects your attitude about what you think of your child’s education. Please be involved in your children’s school by completing your volunteer hours.

Ya han pasado 4 semanas del año escolar 2009-2010, y estoy seguro que ustedes están ansiosos de saber como han progresado sus niños en la Escuela. Algunos Padres de Familia, no asistieron a la primera reunión requerida y no recibieron el número de identificación, que les permite revisar en línea las calificaciones de sus hijos.
Es importante como Padres de familia estar involucrados en la educación de sus hijos en la escuela, porque ustedes son los primeros educadores de ellos en sus hogares. El interés y el entusiasmo de ustedes se refleja en la actitud que los niños tienen para con su escuela. Por favor involúcrese en la escuela de su hijo (os) completando sus horas voluntarias a la Escuela.
DAD’S CLUB CASINO NIGHT
It’s exciting to see the enthusiasm our dads and energy our dads are doing to make sure Queen of Peace has a very successful first Casino Night. Tickets have gone on sale for $50 per ticket. This will be a great chance for Queen of Peace families and friends to get together Saturday, October 10. There will be great food, lots of prizes and especially to share a good time with friends and families. This is also an opportunity for you to help make our first major fund raiser a great success. We don’t want to forget the wives of the Dad Club members who are also behind the scenes working diligently to make this a successful event.
NOCHE DE CASINO POR EL “CLUB DE LOS PAPRES”
Es emocionante ver el trabajo, el entusiasmo y la energía del club de los Padres por asegurarse que la primera “Noche de Casino”, que se celebrara en Reina de la Paz sea todo un suceso. Los boletos estarán a la venta por $50 dólares, este valor incluye 2 bebidas, comida y la equivalencia de $500 dólares, en dinero para jugar. Esta es una gran oportunidad para que todas la familias y amigos de Reina de la Paz podamos compartir el Sábado 10 de Octubre. Habrá muchos premios, diversión y comida, además será una gran oportunidad para hacer de este primera recolección de fondos un gran éxito. Debemos resaltar la ayuda valiosa que aportan las esposas de las miembros del Club de los padres para hacer de este evento algo inolvidable.
